US Blockade on Iranian Ports Takes Effect as Trump Claims Tehran ‘Desperately’ Wants a Deal”
Tensions in the Middle East have escalated sharply as the United States officially enforced a military blockade on Iranian ports and coastal areas.
The blockade came into effect at 1400 GMT on Monday, following the collapse of high-level negotiations over the weekend that failed to produce any agreement to end the ongoing conflict with Iran.
Under this move, all maritime traffic entering or leaving Iranian ports is now subject to U.S. military control, raising serious concerns about global trade disruption and energy supply, particularly through the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Tehran is “very desperate” to reach a deal, suggesting that Iran is under increasing pressure amid the escalating situation. However, no breakthrough has been achieved, and key disagreements remain unresolved.
The development also puts a fragile two-week ceasefire at significant risk. Analysts warn that if tensions continue to rise, the situation could quickly spiral into a broader regional conflict.
Iran has strongly condemned the blockade, calling it незаконitimate and warning of possible retaliation—further increasing fears of instability across the Gulf region.
